Itinerary

DAY 1 – SALALAH
Upon arrival you will be met by a Stylish Tours USA representative and transferred to your hotel for overnight.

DAY 2 – SALALAH
Visit the fishing village of Taqa, an old town with an interesting castle surrounded by watchtowers and Taqa stone houses.

Continue to Khor Rori creek and the ruins of Samhuram (visit from outside), the capital of ancient Arabia’s frankincense trade. Excavations have produced evidence of ancient trade links to the Far East and even distant Greece.

Proceed to Mirbat. This ancient capital of Dhofar was an important town as early as the 9th century for its trade in frankincense, horses and slaves. See some of the old houses famous for their woodcarvings and one of Dhofar’s best-known historic sites, the twin-domed tomb of Mohamed Bin Ali, a fine example of medieval architecture.

Visit the biblical “Nabi Ayoub,” tomb of the prophet Job, perched high in the mountains. En route are spectacular views of the plains, mountain landscape and emerald green pastureland.

Drive on to Mughsayl Beach to see the famous Blow-holes, perforations in the limestone rock through which sea water gushes during high tide.

Experience some hairpin curves for 15-20 km en route to a wadi with breathtaking views. At the nearby bird sanctuary, you may see seasonal birds. The stark shape of leafless Frankincense trees dots the landscape. Once traded as a commodity more precious than gold, frankincense harvested in Dhofar is rated the best in the world.

Return to your hotel for overnight.

DAY 3 –
Begin with a city tour of Salalah, known as the “perfume capital of Arabia” and the largest city in the Dhofar region. Salalah is also the birthplace of Sultan Qaboos.

Visit the Sultan Qaboos Mosque.

Continue to the Al Baleed archaeological park, a UNESCO world heritage site. Al Baleed was an important trading port for frankincense and myrrh between the 7th and 14th century. The attached Salalah Museum houses many artefacts from that period.

Pass the royal palace on the way to Haffa souk. Visit the gold souk with a variety of gold and silver handicrafts. A visit to the food souk is interesting; the meat souk is more for the brave.

End the tour with a scenic drive through the garden-like fruit plantations. Stop at a fruit stall for a refreshing coconut milk, sipped with a straw directly from the nut. Or try the small sweet local bananas or papayas and guavas.

Then transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
